What is the Gavilanso Project?

Gavilanso was born to solve one of the most complex challenges of the 21st century: Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Imagine an ecosystem where different types of aircraft coexist safely in the same airspace. To prove this is possible, the project focused on two critical use cases:

1. GANSOS: Coordinated autonomous drones for logistics and monitoring tasks.
2. GAVILAN: Advanced energy management for eVTOLs (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing), the "air taxis" of tomorrow.

Leading the ascent: Idneo’s technical contribution

As leaders and coordinators of the project, Idneo focused on the "brain" and "heart" of these aircraft: the batteries. In a vehicle that must take off vertically, every gram counts, and energy management is a matter of mission-critical safety.

Our technical contribution has pushed the boundaries in three key areas:

• Reconfigurable battery system: We designed a smart battery that configures itself in real-time. This allows for optimized thermal management and adapts power delivery to handle the most complex situations that may arise during an eVTOL flight.
• Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Wireless BMS: We developed a Wireless Battery Management System that eliminates traditional cabling. By using UWB technology, we drastically reduce the aircraft's overall weight, a critical factor for enhancing efficiency, range, and safety.
• Extreme efficiency: Fewer cables mean less complexity and more room for innovation.

One step closer to smart cities

The completion of Gavilanso is not just the end of a project; it is the validation that technologies such as wireless BMS and configurable batteries are the keys to making air taxis a daily reality.
