EDGE-DM: Building the technical foundation for Europe’s first medical device data space
The digital transformation of healthcare in Europe is reaching a pivotal milestone with EDGE-DM, the first-of-its-kind data space dedicated to medical devices. However, creating a secure, sovereign, and scalable ecosystem requires a robust technical backbone.
To bring a vision of this scale to life, Idneo and Tinámica have joined forces to build a robust technical foundation. This development is carried out under the guidance of the Centro de Referencia de Espacios de Datos (CRED), to ensure that the deployment of EDGE-DM aligns with the national reference model for data spaces.
The technical engine: Tinámica’s Role
To ensure that EDGE-DM functions as a high-performance ecosystem, Tinámica is leading the implementation across four critical areas:
- Cloud Infrastructure: Leading the deployment and configuration of the secure environment where the data space is hosted.
- Interoperability & federated AI: Ensuring that medical devices and AI platforms can communicate seamlessly and securely, allowing for federated model training without compromising data privacy.
- Data space governance: Collaborating with Idneo to design the regulatory and operational frameworks that guarantee data sovereignty and compliance with the most demanding European standards.
- Specialized support: Providing the technical expertise necessary to maintain the constant operability of an ecosystem designed for the intelligent monitoring of devices across the continent.
Strategic alignment with CRED
By working within the support of the Centro de Referencia de Espacios de Datos (CRED), the project ensures total alignment with the Spanish Government’s Data Office Strategy and European initiatives like Gaia-X. This collaboration guarantees that the rules for data sharing, access control, and sovereignty are benchmarked against national reference standards.
By providing secure access to valuable data and ensuring regulatory compliance, EDGE-DM is accelerating the pace of innovation, ultimately leading to higher device quality and improved patient outcomes across the continent.
