DIGIZITY: AUTOMATING, DECARBONIZING AND DIGITIZING URBAN TRANSPORT
Digizity is a project that started two years ago with the aim of automating, decarbonizing, and digitizing urban transport with an intelligent, connected, and efficient bus. It is led by Avanza, with the participation of Idneo, and the collaboration of four other companies, three technological centres and a consulting firm specialized in public management.
Idneo is developing connectivity solutions, in-cabin sensing, and biometrics through a system that includes 5G connectivity, eCall, V2X communications using high-precision GNSS positioning and occupancy detection for sustainable air renewal management. Additionally, it includes driver monitoring systems (DMS), resulting in improved autonomous driving and safer, eco-friendly, and connected vehicles.
The project, which concluded in March 2024, is qualified as a successful case, as it has addressed key challenges such as developing an autonomous and connected bus, the digitization of mobility and sustainability (development of current electric buses and the first prototype of a hydrogen-powered urban bus in Spain). It involves comprehensive research throughout the value chain, covering connectivity, bus robotization, and electrification, extending beyond the vehicles themselves. This initiative creates disruptive technologies in fleet management and smart cities based on the use of artificial intelligence, offering transfer possibilities to other industry segments.
Project funded by the Unión Europea – NextGenerationEU through the call for the year 2021 Sustainable Automotive Technology Program, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan and the State Program to Catalyze Innovation and Business Leadership of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical, and Innovation Research 2021-2023 promoted by the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico e Industrial.
